Liam Maonla

Sligo, Ireland

Biography

Born on November 7, 1964, Liam  Maonla is an Irish musician and recording artist. In 1985 he teamed up with schoolmate Fiachna Ó Braonain to form the Hothouse Flowers, a band that has released a number of albums and played in front of stadium sized crowds and festivals such as Glastonbury. In addition to his work with the Flowers, in 2005 Liam released a solo album performed in Irish Gaelic entitled Rian.

How we met:

Liam was introduced to us through a mutual friend, and agreed to collaborate with us while we were in filming in Dublin. We went to his house and followed him into his backyard where he built a small fire. Together we discussed the power of music to unite the planet, and added his vocal and didgeridoo to “Biko.”
