The War and Treaty

Songhoy Blues

Bamako, Mali

Biography

Born from civil war & a shared rejection of Sharia law nearly 10 years ago, SONGHOY BLUES embody a unique & remarkable journey from refugees to budding rock stars. Featured in the 2015 award-winning documentary They Will Have to Kill Us First about the plight of musicians in war-torn Mali, these are 4 young men with firsthand knowledge of the violence & vagaries resulting from a country torn by tumult & divided by ideology. Their response has been to fight back using the most powerful weapon they have – their music.
