Biography

In 1993 under the auspices of the Fundacion Pablo Milanes creates the Camerata Romeu, as the first female string orchestra in Latin America and in the world only because of their gender, repertoire and stage presence. For her, the best composers of Cuba, Latin America and North America have written works that have been recorded in several phonograms. With this chamber orchestra, Zenaida Romeu has made numerous international tours (Spain, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, France, the U.S., Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, Colombia, etc.) and numerous recordings of Cuban and Latin American music for orchestra strings, often unpublished, collected in the phonograms La Bella Cubana (Chamber Music Award and the Critics Award CUBADISCO 1997), Cuba Mia, Dance of the Witches, Tampa Havana Oslo, Raigal (Cubadisco) and Non Divisi, Roberto Valera monograph, Latin Grammy nominee, stamps Bis Music, Hummingbird. The album Sidewalks monograph Sertoes Brazilian composer Egberto Gismonti, produced by the German label ECM has the significance of being the first recording in the history of the production company that promotes and sells recorded music for an orchestra Latin American, Cuban and women.

He also participates as a conductor in other joint musical productions as Round Trip Dreams with Victor Monge (Serranito) Latin Grammy nominee, Habanera from Cadiz with Carlos Cano, La Rumba soy yo (Vol. II), Cervantes Four Pianos, Cubadisco Award, World Music (1999), the Island of Music and many others.

The work of the Camerata Romeu has been recorded also in several documentaries including: Love and Magic (1997) Maura Eva Diaz, Strings of my City (1998) and Cuba Vilas’­s Mayra Mine, Portrait of a female orchestra (2002) Cecilia Domeyko currently promoted by PBS and Art channel worldwide.
